If you’ve ever dined at Olive Garden, you know that their warm, buttery breadsticks are one of the main highlights. Now, you can recreate that same restaurant-style magic right in your kitchen with this easy Homemade Breadsticks recipe. Perfect as a side for pasta, soup, or salad—or even as a snack on their own—these breadsticks are fluffy on the inside, golden on the outside, and brushed with a mouthwatering garlic butter.
📝 Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
- 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1¾ tsp salt
- 3 cups all-purpose flour (more if needed)
For the Garlic Butter Topping:
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp dried parsley (optional)

👩🍳 Instructions:
1. Activate the yeast:
In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
2. Make the dough:
Add melted butter and salt to the yeast mixture. Slowly mix in the flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 7–8 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
3. First rise:
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
4. Shape the breadsticks:
Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 6–8 inch log. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing evenly.
5. Second rise:
Cover and let rise again for 20–30 minutes.
6. Bake:
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the breadsticks for 12–15 minutes, or until lightly golden.
7. Add garlic butter:
While still warm, brush generously with melted butter mixed with garlic powder, salt, and parsley.
Serve immediately for maximum fluffiness!
